Identity – Design a brand reflecting military history and archival material.
Section icons – Create icons representing key areas of the archive. These are to work on marketing material as well as heading up the sections on the website.
Stationery and literature – Design supporting materials.
Website – Extend the identity onto the digital format.
Identity – Historical research informed the identity, drawing on typography and colour references associated with the period. Four coloured blocks represent the archive’s core collections, forming a simple mark that evokes both a library and the categorised nature of the archive. The identity provides the foundation for a wider visual language used across printed materials and the website.
Section icons – Four icons represent the archive’s principal collections. The Rolls takes the form of a military medal, Murphy’s Register combines three service personnel to represent the Army, Royal Navy and Royal Air Force, The Library is represented by a row of books, and World War II uses a customised typographic treatment for immediate recognition. Together, they provide a clear navigation framework across both printed and digital materials.
Flyer – Printed materials use a structured layout approach built around the identity and section icons.
Consistent typography, colour coding and clear information hierarchy provide a recognisable suite of stationery, flyers and publications, helping readers navigate the archive’s content.
Website – The identity translates onto the digital platform, combining historic imagery, colour coding and intuitive navigation to support books, archives and research materials. The section icons become key navigational elements, helping users move between collections quickly and clearly. A secure members’ area provides controlled access to archive records and research resources..
